Short version: DisplayForge does not collect, store or send any personal data, and it works offline by default. This page explains the details for the app, its optional AI assistant and this website.
The DisplayForge app
- DisplayForge works offline by default. It contains no telemetry, analytics, crash reporting or advertising code.
- There is no account or sign-in. We never learn who you are or how you use the app.
- Your settings — hotkeys, profiles, layouts, zones and rules — are stored locally on your PC. They only leave your computer if you export them yourself. A small diagnostic log (without window titles) is also kept on your PC, so you can attach it to a bug report yourself if you choose.
- To do its job, the app reads information about your monitors and open windows on your PC. This information is used locally and is never transmitted.
- Apart from the optional AI assistant described below, only two things touch the network, and neither sends anything about you: if the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is missing, the installer downloads it from Microsoft; and “Check for updates” only opens the DisplayForge download page (windowlayout.com) in your web browser. The app has no built-in updater and never goes online by itself.
The optional AI assistant
- It is off by default. Nothing is sent to any AI service until you turn it on and ask it something.
- Bring your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini), sign in with OpenRouter, or run fully local with Ollama. Keys are kept in Windows Credential Manager, never in settings files, exports or logs.
- Only your monitor layout and app names are sent to the provider you chose; window titles only if you allow it. A “What will be sent” view shows the exact data first. Requests go straight from your PC to that provider, and we never see them.
- Every plan is checked and previewed, nothing happens until you click Run, and Undo puts it back. Token usage is counted only on your PC.
This website
- This is a static website. It uses no cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and downloads are served via Cloudflare (R2). Cloudflare may process technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and files; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare may also try to inject its Web Analytics script, but this site's Content Security Policy blocks it, so no analytics data is collected.
- A service worker stores copies of pages on your device so the site loads fast and works offline. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
- Share buttons are plain links. Nothing is sent to a social network unless you click one.
